Archaeological Resolution and Excavation
Archaeological excavation involves the removal of an archaeological site, deposits or anomalies from a site in advance of development. It follows specific and best practise approaches, regulated by the National Monuments Service. Once the location is archaeologically excavated, it becomes clear for the development to proceed. Once cleared, the material – site records, drawings, artefacts and samples are obtained for post-excavation analysis, dating and reporting, which is a requirement regulated by the National Monuments Service. The specialised techniques and methodologies include artefact analysis, environmental sampling and scientific dating techniques.
Our systematic excavation work by qualified and highly skilled archaeologists enables us to establish a full record of the excavated site. This adds to the corpus of previous archaeological knowledge through inclusion in the central national database. The purpose and relevance of archaeological excavation is to understand past human activity and preserve this information through careful and deliberate recording for future generations. Gregory Archaeology specialises in such excavations and establishes a comprehensive record of the areas investigated.
We partner with our clients to create a schedule of the excavation to that of the development-led schedule. This ensures that we eliminate or at the very least, minimise any potential delays to the construction schedule.
