Archaeological Impact Assessment

Archaeological impact assessments may be required as a condition of planning permission or a request for further information. Impact assessments take place as preliminary or advance work to a development. Should a development be of a sufficiently large size or close to recorded archaeological sites, we advocate early project inclusion with Gregory Archaeology. Early inclusion enables us to partner with our clients to inform the planning process on realistic and effective heritage solutions, thereby alleviating more onerous stipulations. It ensures an effective and informed routeway to development, while fulfilling correct observation to any impacted heritage.

Archaeological impact assessments take the form of desktop evaluation to identify potential for archaeology in areas proposed for development. They are followed by site or walkover surveys to assess recorded archaeology impacts or potential for identifying previously unrecorded archaeology. A mitigation strategy is developed with regards to any identified archaeology to enable appropriate construction schedules.
